1. Check whether the car still has sale value
Age alone does not decide whether a vehicle is waste. Model demand, repair potential, usable components, documents and safe collection all affect value. Send the VIN, year, location, an honest condition summary and clear photographs before making an irreversible decision.
If the offer is acceptable, complete a normal sale with a contract, payment and SDK ownership declarations. This is not a destruction procedure and does not produce an ELV destruction certificate.
- Ownership documents and a current SDK are available
- The VIN is readable and the car can be identified
- Its condition and collection access can be described honestly
2. When an authorised ELV operator is needed
For legal disposal, Lithuania’s Environmental Protection Department advises handing the vehicle to a company authorised to treat end-of-life vehicles. Check the operator in the GPAIS waste-handler register rather than relying on a promise that paperwork will be arranged later.
Ask who accepts the car, under which authorisation and how the destruction declaration will be completed.

3. Destruction declaration, SDK and deregistration
Regitra explains that the authorised operator submits the destruction declaration through GPAIS and needs the current owner declaration code. Once the process is completed correctly, the SDK is cancelled and the vehicle is deregistered automatically.
A car buyer is not automatically an authorised ELV operator. Do not assume that every buyer can issue a destruction record.
